The fireman are volunteers, serving without pay and they have been active in civic affairs from their very beginning. In the spring of 1922 the firemen and the Civic Club cooperated with the school board and held the first school picnic in Carrick Park. They assisted in the dedication of the Elroy School in 1932, they sponsored Drum and Bugle Corp programs, dances, etc. to raise funds for the fire company. They also participated in the annual Independence Day Celebration by sponsoring this affair alternately each year with the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Post 1810.
The Purpose of the association is to preserve and protect life and property from the peril of fire and other major hazards within the borough and to lend the same assistance to neighboring communities when requested.
